Usually if you strangle a bunch of innocent children to death, it’s a big no-no. But if you’re the one person on earth who is supposed to love and protect them, then apparently it’s not so bad.1
Last week, hundreds of women in pink shirts stood outside a Massachusetts courthouse to support Lindsay Clancy, a mother who has admitted to strangling her three children with exercise bands. Nobody has held a comparable gathering for her dead children. There are also thousands of commenters online claiming Clancy is not guilty.
This reveals something disturbing about how people decide who deserves sympathy. What I’m about to explain is something about our society that most people would rather ignore.
