What a great coda.

"A country that cannot produce friendship will not produce much of anything else."

"Psychologists will not find this shocking. Humans are mimetic creatures. We calibrate our appetites, our outlooks, and our life plans by watching the people around us, as well as the people just above us. So it should not surprise us that the report finds a “celebrity effect” as well."

This explains much of what is wrong today as the grey men of Madison Ave have perfected the advertising influence psych ops that is exploited by the commie feminists that have moved into control of our institutions to create the social narratives that people are mimicking.

I told my wife when waiting to board our flight that I was telling myself that I hope the family with three young children making all that noise sat close enough to us where I could offer to lend their parents a hand entertaining them during the flight. I was doing this on purpose to counter the alternative dread thinking of the family sitting behind us where I would be irritated by the noise and the little feet kicking the back of the seat.

This is what we need... to train ourselves to love and enjoy the energy and chaos of young children. I am a grandparent now for the first time, and I think that has sparked my heart to go there again.

This is why I am a freelance uncle to my friends with kids, not just to descendants.

"The standard answers are money and housing, and the report takes those seriously. " That sounds the way that Claude would put it. Did you have an AI summarize the report for you?

Last year, I spent a good chunk of time talking with friends about friendship. Overall, I came away with a sense that friendship requires a kind of spiritual strength in people on both sides. Real friendship is not for the faint of heart, because you will be faced with all sorts of messes between the people involved. I did not come up with the hypothesis that people in Western societies have become "smaller" (maturity developmentally regressed), but I now see more and more evidence pointing in that direction. One of the memes that, in my mind, captures this best is that of the "Karen" -- a person who is easily triggered, and then requires an external authority to sort out "the mess" that arose, rather than taking a step back and inquiring into, "if I experience this as a mess, what MUST I do myself to contribute to cleaning it up?" The notion of *wanting* to shoulder some individual responsibility seems definitely on the decline -- outside of publicity stunt generating activism, that is, where status among peers is still a sufficiently strong driver. But I imagine that those kinds of stunts have rather the opposite effect on "wanting to bring children into the world." If the world is as bad as the activists claim, then surely it would be irresponsible to expose an innocent child to SUCH a mess...

An interesting and intriguing idea. Thank you for a new perspective.
