Many people my age (older than the hills) learned conversational skills at the family dinner table. Unfortunately, many (most?) families no longer have dinner together (with the TV off). My parents insisted we be home for dinner every night, although we were allowed to bring guests when we began dating. And my dad was known for bringing home interesting people without warning, which is why my mother always prepared more food than necessary. I learned a lot at that dinner table and was introduced to a vast selection of topics.

2 Grateful Dead songs are on my mind today. “Comes a time” and “Mission in the rain “. Similar songs thematically. About wanting dreams, working towards dreams, and hitting or missing those dreams. So men need to feel grounded? Let them talk about their aspirations. I only started seriously thinking about mine relatively recently and definitely in my late 20s. And yes, personal communication is a skill i want to develop so I can lead people and develop business relationships.

Listen and put yourself into the song

Great piece, Rob. I agree with your point about scrolling. The outdoor version of scrolling is wearing headphones, especially in lively places like NYC. I don't wear headphones outside of the gym because I love all of the random interactions I have with my neighbors or even on the subway. A friend recently said I just love life too much and don't need to escape. :)

The Great Feminization is the seed of explanatory knowledge that needs to be built on. The devolution of the system to Managerial Capitalism where consumer markets became saturated and thus demand creation was required for continued corporate profit and shareholder maximization. The game is emotional and psychological manipulation through media marketing to acquire attention and cash from consumers. The time and resources extracted are those that could otherwise be used for personal improvement... ambition to make a better life. The giant conglomerates that own the world are defensive of the risk that people will wake up to this realization. They demand a collectivist matriarchy where people are just controlled consuming robots.

But that is the remedy. Put down the social media device and game controller and go do something with your mind and hands that will improve your life situation. Stop buying all the crap that you don't need and instead invest in your own future. Don't TRY to be interesting, just pursue interesting activities and you WILL become interesting.

Or sit on the couch by yourself eating chips and looking at a screen all day and then rage that you are lonely and unappealing.

Liked it last week, like it now, especially the reply from a certain young man. The joy and surprise in his reply is almost palpable.

Back in the '80s when my mate and I (thanks to his crazy background) were trying to get relatives out of communist Romania and traveling to Japan and Bulgaria for karate tournaments, I noticed that what most of my peers mostly talked about was the movies and TV shows they had seen.
